Pupils take on Brecon Beacons

Pupils successfully complete their DofE Practice expedition in Wales

During activities weekend, seven teachers helped 53 Silver and five Gold participants to successfully complete their Duke of Edinburgh Practice expedition in the Brecon Beacons. For the direct entrant Gold candidates it was the first of two practice expeditions, their next one being in March 2019.

Over the three days, all participants had to be totally self-sufficient and walked in excess of 45km climbing over 1000m with heavy rucksacks across some tough terrain. The weather was kind and the rain stayed away for the duration of the expedition. The views from the top of the Black Mountains were stunning and all candidates performed remarkably well throughout.

A huge well done to all those who took part. For more information on the Gold Duke of Edinburgh programme, please visit our expeditions page.
