Newly Appointed Principal Deputy Head

Newly Appointed Principal Deputy Head

We are delighted to announce Mrs Sam Robinson as our new Principal Deputy Head from September 2025.

Sam was educated at King's Canterbury and Haileybury (where she was an academic scholar and played first team hockey) before gaining a First in English Literature at Exeter College, Oxford. She then took a postgraduate diploma in Law before pursuing a career as a journalist and eventually founded her own media company.

Sam moved into education in 2011, teaching English at Churcher's College before moving to Portsmouth Grammar School in 2015. She held leadership roles at both schools, most recently as Assistant Head at PGS, leading whole school enrichment and the Sixth Form.

Since 2020, Sam has been working for Lift Schools Multi Academy Trust, collaborating with 57 different schools in a national leadership role. She holds overall responsibility for sixth form provision, futures and careers education, setting educational vision and strategy and designing Continuing Professional Development programmes. She is a qualified and active Ofsted inspector and has written textbooks and articles for a range of print and digital media.

A keen water sports enthusiast, Sam is a qualified yachtmaster and a Governor at Richmond Park Academy. Sam's husband, James, is currently Director of Drama at Portsmouth Grammar School, and they have two boys who are currently at the local Highfield Prep School.

I am very much looking forward to working closely with Sam and I am sure you will all join me in welcoming her and her family most warmly to Charterhouse!
