St Edmund's Scholars

We're looking forward to the arrival of all our new pupils in September and are happy to share this Q&A with two new Scholars, Rory and Guy, who will be joining us from St Edmund's in Hindhead.

Rory

  • What is your favourite subject at school and why?

Biology would be high up my list of favourites, as I have always loved learning about the natural world.

  • What extra-curricular activities do you enjoy the most?

Sport is a highlight of any day and has helped me to balance GCSE study: I particularly enjoy tennis, indoor rock climbing and playing basketball, in a match or just with friends.

  • What are you most looking forward to at Charterhouse?

Throwing myself into an exciting community, the step up to A Level and generally trying my hand at new things.

Guy

  • What is your favourite subject at school and why?

I’ve always enjoyed Maths because of its consistency and systematic way of working. Unlike other subjects, in Maths you are right or wrong with no in between; this obviously makes it easy to find where you strayed from the correct method and how to adjust your answer. However, as the standard is raised, Maths becomes less of a carried-out method and more involved in problem-solving and identifying what to really do with the question.  This is what keeps it interesting, as a new problem require a new way around it.

  • What extra-curricular activities do you enjoy the most?

I love my sport and music. I’ve been a very keen hockey and cricket player since a young age.  I am a chorister and a cellist, and enjoy playing in orchestras.

  • What are you most looking forward to at Charterhouse?

The boarding school experience, and having so many opportunities and facilities nearby.
