Summer, All Wrapped Up

Summer, All Wrapped Up

It’s been another bumper summer at Charterhouse.  As soon as term finished and Leavers’ celebrations wrapped up, pitches were readied, boarding houses prepped and gates opened for our residential groups.

It was the third year of Charterhouse Summer School this year, seeing three houses used for both the Junior and Senior programme of 150 students attending each two-week course. Charterhouse Summer School continues to grow and will next year increase to four houses all located in central School, Gownboys, Sutton, Girdlestonites and Verites.

We also held the Charterhouse Young Learners Summer Course, a boarding school taster programme for children 8-12 years. After a five-year hiatus since before Covid, it was wonderful to see our Young Learners back. We were also thrilled to have returning Old Carthusians as teaching and house assistants, sharing their Charterhouse experiences with the next generation.

Each year we have the privilege of hosting disadvantaged children from Shaftesbury Primary School for a week’s residential camp led by our Sixth Formers who take on the role of pastoral care, running activities for the week.

Additionally, our pitches remained at capacity throughout July and August, with Euro Sports Camps hosting football, Harlequins Rugby running residential camps for both boys and girls, and England Lacrosse running residential and day camps. These activities were interspersed with one-off events, including fashion photo shoots, a wedding and  district sports days.

Special mention goes to the amazing support teams that make all our summer activity possible. We hope you enjoyed your summer as much as we did!
