On Wednesday 12 June we were delighted to welcome friends, donors, volunteers and contractors back to Charterhouse for the official opening of The Hub, our business, leadership and entrepreneurship centre and the home of our FutureU programme.
We were honoured that, to officially open The Hub, the ribbon was cut by Old Carthusian Jay Mehta (P79). Jay has been instrumental in helping the Head and the team develop the concept of creating a space for pupils to learn in a business focused environment.
I believe this centre is a fantastic step towards ensuring that our students are well prepared to make the most of the opportunities they may encounter in the future.

The Hub provides a range of new spaces which mirror both university and professional environments, focusing on the development of their skills for business and the workplace, away from the constraints of a traditional classroom. It houses a seminar room, a video conferencing room, multiple collaborative working areas and links through to the newly refurbished Lecture Theatre.
The Hub is also the home of our FutureU programme and the Charterhouse Entrepreneurship Diploma, both of which equip pupils to develop the transferable skills, professional knowledge, experiences and mindset required to thrive throughout their later lives. Year 12 pupils who recently completed the Charterhouse Entrepreneurship Diploma were on hand during the opening to showcase their business plans which they developed during the Diploma programme.
Sandip Patel, Head of Entrepreneurship, shared his experiences of the space with our audience at the opening: “It has given me more tools to adapt from a traditional classroom. I have the ability to interact more freely, encourage independent critical thinking and promote collaboration – a space where sharing ideas and talking is actively encouraged!”
The Hub has been fully funded by the generosity of our community who donated over £3 million to collectively bring this project to fruition. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made this progressive idea into a reality.
