Sport Masterclass Day for Primary Schools

On Monday 13 June, the final 150th Anniversary Celebrations took place as we welcomed two local primary schools, St Edmund’s and St Mark & All Saints, to take part in some fun sport taster sessions. These sessions involved a variety of sports including cricket, football, tennis and athletics. It is safe to say that the pupils appeared to have a delightful day in the sun as they grew in confidence in new activities, including the high jump with the highest jumper reaching an impressive 1.2 metres. In addition, the Year 5s and 6s worked on their dribbling skills in football, close control in tennis and enjoyed playing some friendly Kwik-cricket games.

For lunch everyone enjoyed a barbecue put on by the catering team, and all pupils had exemplary manners. Charterhouse Sport were delighted to host these two primary schools, and we hope they had a great day.

U14/U15 Football v Broadwater

As part of the 150th Anniversary Celebrations, Charterhouse welcomed local school, Broadwater, for a football match featuring a mixture of U14 and U15 players. With the sun shining on Big Ground and a strong turnout to support the players, Charterhouse started the game with good intent, pressing well and putting together some good passing moves to break through Broadwater’s defence. Eventually Charterhouse did make the breakthrough from a looping cross tapped in at the back post. As the match went on, Charterhouse players found their rhythm and, through some more well-worked moves down the wings, found themselves scoring twice more with no reply. Broadwater fought back well but couldn’t find a goal despite their efforts and the match finished 3-0.

U14 Netball v Broadwater

Our 150 Year Celebrations was also a fitting moment to play our new Under School girls against Broadwater. It was great to see so many girls back on the courts enjoying their netball. Their progress from the spring term had certainly not been lost with some consistent shooting by Izzy and Emily. Excellent defence by Gabi, Beatrix and Ayah ensured that we intercepted those important balls and converted the play into our circle. We took an early lead and going into half time, we had full control of the game. It was nice to be able to play girls into other positions and develop their versatility. An excellent game and the girls were very hospitable at the BBQ supper, getting to know our local neighbours. Players of the match went to Poppy and Jamie.

Thank you to Broadwater School for joining the 150th Anniversary Celebrations events and helping us celebrate the local area.
