As we welcome pupils back to School we reflect upon the success of our lockdown sport provisions

London Pulse Netball Masterclass with Lefebre Rademan

Saturday 27 February saw us host our virtual netball masterclass with the Year 9 girls arriving in September 2021 and 2022. We had 48 girls join us from across the world and we were lucky to have London Pulse and South African shooter, Lefebre Rademan, lead the session. The intensity was high and the skill set outstanding. Some fantastic questions were asked in the Q&A and it was lovely to hear about Lefebre's journey to elite netball.

We are very much looking forward to seeing the Year 9 girls arrive as it becomes very real, that very soon, they will be playing on our fantastic new netball courts.

Dan Fox Hockey Masterclass

On Saturday 6 March we were joined by double Olympian and ex-GB captain Dan Fox to host an online hockey masterclass for pupils joining us this September. This event was a huge success and it was great to see 60 pupils testing out their skills during the sessions. This was followed by a Q&A with Dan where our new joiners asked lots of questions that demonstrated their open-minded approach to learning about elite sport and pushing themselves to improve. Mr Sandbach and Mrs Edwards were very pleased to see all the pupils ahead of September and are very excited at the prospect of working with such an enthusiastic cohort. Well done to everyone who attended and thank you to Dan Fox for running the session.

Sam Ward webinar

GB and England forward Sam Ward took some time away from his busy schedule to speak to our students about his life as a professional athlete. Sam is currently training with the GB team in their lead up to the Tokyo Olympics and is hoping to make the squad to round off his recovery from an injury that cost him partial sight from his left eye. He talked about his journey to the Rio 2016 Olympics from playing mixed hockey at his local club in Leicester as a junior (they didn’t have a boys team), to representing Beeston and Old Georgians in the Premiership. Pupils got the opportunity to ask him questions directly throughout the session. Our pupils will have been inspired by Sam’s perseverance through setbacks and his ability to stay open-minded about the prospect of his return to Olympic level hockey. Sam was a great ambassador for GB Hockey and interacted with our pupils fantastically. It is clear that he is taking his responsibility to progressing the sport that he loves seriously. We wish Sam all the best for his training and hope that he gets to Tokyo, he definitely has a few more fans in his corner following his time with us.

3KM virtual event v Radley College

The weekend of the 27 February saw our first virtual race v Radley College. It was a superb event with 75 pupils and 23 staff taking part. Points were awarded in different categories ranging from U14’s right through to U18’s.

We're pleased to say that Charterhouse came out as winners: 36 points to 15 but a huge thanks to Radley for the fixture. Well done to all participants for giving it a go and challenging yourself.

Charterhouse Challenge Cup

Throughout the first four weeks of the spring term, the Sports department ran a Challenge Cup – each day a new challenge was posted on the Greyhound page and Instagram – pupils could attempt the challenge and score points based on how well they completed the challenge. Points ranged from 2-8 and they recorded scores on a Microsoft form at the end of the week.

Congratulations to Robinites for winning the competition followed by Daviesites in 2nd place and Girdlestoneites in 3rd place.

Live HIIT Sessions

Every Monday and Wednesday at 4.00pm we welcomed pupils throughout the school to attend our HIIT sessions – these included a combination of physical and skill type activities led by Mr Sandbach and Mr Ellis Woodley. It was a great opportunity to blow off some steam after a day of virtual lessons.

Well done to everyone for staying so healthy and engaged during lockdown!
