A Round-Up of Sport

The season has well and truly begun in stunning weather and highly contested matches. The 1st XI has played four matches, beating RGS Guildford and Radley, narrowly losing to Whitgift and heavily to Hurst. Luke and Jonty have been in good touch with the bat, Luke hitting the first century of the season in a successful run chase against Radley.

The rest of the School had a mixed set of results against Hurst, good wins for the 3rd XI, U15Bs and Cs and in the U14s the Cs started with a win. There were some standout performances. Josh with 98 for the 14As, Sam a match winning innings for the 3rd XI and Barney with 5 wickets in the same match.

The girls have also started their season. The first match ended in defeat but was a good learning experience.

It has been an action-packed start to the tennis season. The opening weekend of the term saw over 20 tennis teams in action in the Independent Schools League (ISL) as well as block fixtures against Tonbridge and Downe House. All 27 courts have been packed during the sports afternoons.

The Senior ISL team put in an exceptional performance to finish as runners-up within their group. Tom and Jamie leading from the front with multiple victories. The Junior ISL team finished 3rd with all players making good contributions.

The senior girls had some tough tennis against Downe House. Annabel and Emma produced some solid tennis in the 1st team match. The junior sides put up an exceptional fight with the U15A girls side on the reverse end of a 5-4 result. The U14s battled hard in their first school matches as well with plenty of positive feedback.

The boys had some good performances against Tonbridge. There is considerable strength in depth in the U14s and U15s and with competition for places in teams at high levels, it is no surprise to me to see some fine, all-round performances. The U14B side put on a mature display in their 9-0 victory, and I believe our U15D side would give any U15D side a run for their money!

The future of Charterhouse Tennis has never looked so bright. A week of coaching along with some matches against Tormead, RGS Guildford and Guildford High this week…Local derbies to look forward to!
