Drive, determination and dedication

Simon Hayward joins Charterhouse as Director of Football

Former Exeter City Head of Academy, Simon Hayward, has joined the School as Director of Football.  Simon is a Business Economics graduate, and joins Charterhouse following a 16-year career with Exeter City Football Club, most recently for the past 9 years as Academy Director and Head of Coaching, where he helped develop a nationally recognised and respected youth development programme.

He has coached players who have gone onto play Premier League and International football, as well as youth teams at schools including Millfield. He is a top qualified UEFA Pro Licence holder as well as possessing numerous Football Association qualifications and awards.

Simon Hayward reveals why Charterhouse was the most logical choice for him:

“Working at Exeter City Football Club my priority was always the holistic development of each individual player, their personal, social and academic development was always a priority over and above their football.  The aim was to develop decent well-rounded young men first and foremost but, in prioritising those things, we actually saw a benefit to their football development. I believe that working in the Charterhouse environment will be a perfect fit for my philosophy and there will be a synergy between what the school want for the pupils and how I work.

“Charterhouse has a unique historical relationship with football and I’m very excited about getting started in such a prestigious place. Charterhouse Football has had a lot of success in the past and with drive, determination and dedication we can continue to build on that success. Given time and plenty of hard work from all involved, football at Charterhouse will reach the pinnacle of sporting success in the independent education world and I aim to support each individual pupil here in the best way I can.”

Mr Hayward will be taking to the pitches in September leading the coaching programme for all boys' and girls' football at Charterhouse as well as being Head Coach for the Boys’ 1st XI.
