Maria has achieved an incredible milestone by earning a hockey scholarship to Dartmouth College, US. This scholarship allows her to play Division 1 hockey, the highest standard equivalent to professional hockey. Maria's dedication and talent on the field have truly paid off.
Maria plans to study neuroscience at Dartmouth, with a keen interest in pre-med. Her academic journey has been impressive, having studied A Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Spanish. Her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) focused on the extent to which care homes provide adequate care for dementia patients.
Throughout her application process, Maria received invaluable support from Mr Colman and Mrs Edwards, who provided video footage to Dartmouth College, highlighting her skills and achievements. Maria's leadership qualities are evident, as she served as Vice-Captain of the girls' first XI hockey team and Vice-Captain of the boys' second XI team. She has also earned full colours in hockey – a testament to her exceptional performance.
One of Maria's standout moments was a match against Brighton College, where she played as centre back and scored, leading her team to a 3-2 victory. Her passion for hockey is matched by her academic and extracurricular involvement. Maria is the Head of the STEM society, a leader for the pupil-action committee Unity and has earned her Gold Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) award.
