Marines on Range

Marines on Range

A group of our CCF cadets recently spent the day on the range under the expert guidance of Royal Marines. With excellent weather, impressive results, and a mix of experienced and first-time shooters, it proved to be one of the most memorable and rewarding training days yet.

Flynn, First Year Specialist (Year 12), reflected on an unforgettable experience:

A group of well-trained Marines and I had the thrilling experience of going on a range day. During this event, there were exquisite demonstrations of skill at arms, which is some of the most impressive shooting I have seen in a while, to the most uniquely brilliant abilities to learn extremely fast from the professionals around us.

Eight of us, including Dr Warren and Mr Dawson, headed out to a 25 m range to demonstrate practical rifle skills, with nine hundred rounds to play with! We had some incredible results from our practice shoots, like a 55 mm grouping (the two furthest shots away from each other after five shots fired), which is incredible after you realise that that is at 25 metres.

The lovely weather shining down on us gave us one of the most thrilling yet peaceful Sunday mornings ever.

This event has also been a good opportunity for two of our nine to have their first ever chance at shooting, with some impressive results that may or may not have somehow been better than me (not naming any names).

Conclusively speaking, this has been one of the most memorably excellent range days I have been on since the start of my involvement in CCF – from the people to the weather to the instructors.
