Fixture Updates
The 1st V squash team have enjoyed a successful two weeks, securing a 5-0 win at Bradfield, and a 3-2 win at home against Winchester. The 2nd V are continuing their unbeaten run with a 4-1 win against Winchester. Well done to Louis Raven and Ariyaana Doss for playing their first fixtures of the season. Rachel Helmsley and Ayah Chehab are doing a fantastic job developing girls’ squash by helping to run training sessions on Thursday evenings. Rachel recently had a convincing win at Bradfield, and Ayah at Cranleigh.
The Charterhouse basketball team show off their Christmas spirit ahead of their fixture at the Surrey Sports Park, where they beat Hurtwood House 42-27. Congratulations to the team who finish Oration Quarter (Autumn Term) undefeated against other schools.
We finished our preseason netball preparation with two outstanding performances against Tormead School. The training and the matches have paid off this Quarter (Term) and we are now going into Long Quarter (Spring Term), confident in our ability, more versatile and a lot fitter. The staff are looking forward to the season ahead which begins on Saturday 11 January.
Girls' hockey at Charterhouse continues to impress on all fronts whether it be the quality of game play or the general way the game is played.
The 1st XI has played 14 and won 10 games this season which is an all-time high at Charterhouse.
The last couple of weeks have seen us play tough opposition in Cranleigh where the standard of play on the day was superb for all teams, but a special mention goes to the 14C and 15B teams with great wins on the day.
This week, House hockey was in full flow with an outstanding level of hockey on display. The Fourths' (Year 9) won by Northbrook, Removes' (Year 10) by Duckites, which was an outstanding final against Weekites.
This week we also have our final block fixtures against Gordan's and Tormead which will cap off a great hockey term by all.
The seniors' House hockey and the combined under-school Lou Batty Cup will finish next week as well as the 15A team will be in action in the national plate quarter final.
On Tuesday 26 November we ran the largest Fives tournament in the history of the School, with 26 pairs from across the 15 boarding houses taking part in the Senior House Fives competition. Pupils represented a wide range of ability, from those who had succeed at nationals last year to those donning their gloves for the very first time.
Pairs were sorted into a series of equally weighted pools, and played five matches against each of the other houses in their pool. This saw some superbly hard fought and close fixtures, with many students new to the game impressing spectators and surprising themselves with their abilities on court. Winners of each pool went into the semi-finals, while runners up made it through to the plate competition.
The Plate competition was eventually won by Daviesites 2nd Pair, who defeated Hodgsonites 12-9 in a popular and fast paced final. The girls’ competition and superb Troy trophy was won by Sutton, who defeated Fletcherites in the closest match of the tournament, ending 13-11 after the pairs had been tied at 11 all. Overall winners were Verites, who fielded two of our strongest U16 players and defeated Lockites 1st Pair in a scintillating display 12-6.
The Spirit of Fives Award goes to Weekites, who having narrowly missed out on the knockout stages elected to stick around and played for another hour after everyone else had finished!
Well played to all who took part.
