Round-Up of Sport

Girls' Sport

It was a busy week for girls' sport with a number of midweek netball matches, an Invitation Netball Tournament and a girls' football match.

Football

The Girls' 1st XI Football had a great week. On Tuesday they secured a convincing 10-1 victory over Wellington College. This was then followed by a fantastic team performance against Sevenoaks at the weekend. They were two nil down at half time but dug deep, showed perseverance and went on to win 3-2. A great achievement. Well done girls!

Netball

The 1st VII Netball played a good midweek fixture against Lancing College. The weather affected the game greatly that inevitably had to be cut short. Unfortunately, despite being up in the last quarter Lancing College were able to pull it back to secure a draw.

The girls also played very well in their first Invitation Tournament of the term. There were a number of close matches and vast improvement throughout the afternoon. Player of the tournament went to Tare, who is having an outstanding term and Hero was commended for her excellent performance on the court.

The 2nd VII also had a good match against Lancing College. The score, however, did not reflect how close the game was. Unfortunately, their Invitation Tournament was cancelled due to the amount of rain we had in the lead up to Saturday.

The 3rd VII narrowly lost to Lancing by three goals, which is an outstanding achievement. This team have improved dramatically this term and should be proud of their progress. Their tournament again was cancelled.

A fantastic week for the girls and they should be proud of all their efforts this term.

Boys' Sport

Hockey

The boys have hit the ground running following the half term break. The 1st XI faced John Hamden School on Tuesday afternoon in the second round of the National Plate competition. Despite it being the first hockey played post half-term the boys were clinical and secured a convincing 4-2 victory over their opponents. They now progress through to the next round which will take place in the coming weeks. Well done and good luck!

Meanwhile, the 2nd XI and 3rd XI played friendly fixtures against Seaford College. Unfortunately, the 2nd XI just fell short as a strong Seaford outfit secured the win. However, the 3rd XI were able to secure a draw against the visiting side. The nail-biting match finished 2-2. Unfortunate not to seal the victory but a great effort, well done boys.

On Thursday the U14B team also welcomed a strong Seaford College side. Having trained hard Tuesday evening they were well prepared for the fixture and ready for the challenge. They displayed great determination and resilience to grind out a 1-0 win. An admirable result against tough opposition.

Saturday afternoon welcomed the highly anticipated House Hockey Tournament where all houses fielded a senior and junior team. In an effort to get as many pupils involved in games and as many touches of the ball as possible this stage was held as a 7-a-side tournament. It was fantastic to have over 160 pupils out on the pitches, braving the elements and representing their Houses with pride.

The Senior House Tournament saw Weekites, Verites, Gownboys, Saunderites, Duckites, Pageites, Daviesites and Bodeites progress to the knockout stages.

In the Junior House Tournament, Pageites, Verites, Bodeites, Daviesites, Lockites, Weekites, Saunderites and Hodgsonites made it through the group stage and into the first round of the knockouts.

A great afternoon, well done to all involved.

Football

On Saturday the AXI and BXI played matches against Tonbridge School. Both matches were competitive with the AXI drawing 2-2 and the BXI losing a tense match 4-3. Lots of great goals for both teams and two games enjoyed by all.

Squash

On Tuesday the Squash First Team earned a convincing 4-1 win over their opponents Marlborough College in the National Cup Round Two. The team will now progress through to the next stage of the national competition. We wish them the best of luck in the next round.

Later in the week the First Team were back in action also with the U18A team and U14A team playing, this time in a friendly fixture against Harrow School. Overall a very successful afternoon with all three teams taking home the win. A great week for Charterhouse Squash, and well done to all involved.

Fives

The U18A team faced Brigands on Thursday afternoon in a friendly; however, they unfortunately couldn’t quite secure the victory.

Later in the week the boys were scheduled to play two fixtures against Emmanuel School and Lancing College but these were cancelled and will be rearranged for a later date.

Basketball

On Tuesday 25 February the U16 team competed in a friendly fixture at home against Reeds School. The boys competed admirably and secured a convincing 32-19 victory over tough opponents. Well done boys.
