Fixture Updates
The last few weeks of Football fixtures at Charterhouse have included a number of cup fixtures for our teams, as well as some big blocks with some of our oldest rivals and friends. The boys teams had some great performances and results against Westminster, Hampton and Eton Schools, whilst our Senior Boys 1st XI, U15 Boys and U15 Girls teams continued their ISFA cup runs.
Unfortunately, the Senior Boys narrowly missed out on a place in the next round with a 2-1 loss to Harrow, and the U15 girls took their game to a thrilling 2-2 draw, before being unlucky in the penalty shoot out. Not all is lost however, their run in the ISFA shield continues and will take place later this month.
In most recent news, a huge congratulations to the U15 Boys cup squad who have made it in to the ISFA Cup Quarter-Finals after beating Ardingly in their fourth round tie. The date for that will be in the new year, watch this space for updates!
The Charterhouse Basketball team were nominated as Finalists for the Godalming Sports Awards School Team of the Year 2024. This was in recognition of their winning the Public Schools’ Basketball Tournament in 2024 (as well as in 2023). Captains of Basketball Mathew and Robert Godley attended the awards evening and received the trophy recognising their efforts. The two Captains were members of both of the last two Tournament winning teams, playing as both 16 and 17 year olds.
On Saturday 16 November, Charterhouse played the Old Carthusian Basketball team. We had eight OCs involved, six of whom were former Captains! In the end the OCs could not keep up with the Charterhouse side and saw the end result 64-54 in favour of Charterhouse.
OC Team list:
Mike Stimpson (g04)
Phil Stimpson (L04)
Tom McKay (P09)
Tom Macfarlane (g12)
Keith Tso (P14)
Aiden Tang (S22)
Will Worthy (G23)
Rory Toms (B24)
The Hockey programme continues to impress and improve with a great block fixture against the City of London Freemans with great wins for the 14A,14C, 15A, 15B and 2ND XI. The 14A and 15A teams have both put in a great display of hockey in recent national plate games and have flown the Charterhouse flag high.
The 15A squad drew Brighton in the 2nd round of the independent school's competition where they showed their class and ended 3-1 winners on the day and have now drawn Emanuel school in the 3rd round on the 12th of December. The 14A squad faced a highly skilful and talented Alleyn’s team where they unfortunately went down on the day, but it was great to see how far the 14A squad has come in a short space of time.
This week we face a great opposition in Cranleigh where all teams will be looking to display those core values of a Carthusian in a competitive block.
Over the last couple of weeks, we have had some preseason Netball matches against Guildford High and St. Catherine’s, Bramley
Individual Achievements
Bella (Year 12):
This weekend, Bella achieved an extraordinary feat in the world of real tennis, securing a win at the prestigious Ladies Real Tennis Association (LRTA) Under-21 Handicap Tournament held at Radley. Given this was U21 and she is only a first year specialist here, makes this even more impressive. The school is incredibly proud of Bella’s achievement. Her success is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and the support she has received from her teachers, coaches, and peers.
DB (Year 11):
DB has spent eight years working tirelessly to reach the pinnacle of youth equestrian sport, representing Great Britain at the European Championships, often referred to as the 'equestrian youth Olympics.' There is no higher honour for an U21 rider and brings the privilege of wearing iconic red collars. This year, she qualified both her horses in 2nd and 3rd place for the GB team, helping them secure an impressive 4th place overall, exceeding all expectations. DB, the 2023 Children on Horses National Champion, also won an award for her international achievements in 2024. In addition to her success in eventing, where she won 4 out of 5 events, she has been selected to represent Surrey County in showjumping at the National Championships and has represented her old school in multiple NSEA teams, winning numerous titles. As a school we are exceptionally proud of what DB has achieved and will continue to support her as she progresses through the senior pathway which peaks at Olympic selection.
Charlotte (Year 9):
Charlotte has been successful in the recent ISFA trials at U14 level. This is an outstanding achievement for Charlotte and she is certainly very busy playing football for school, her club, Inspire Academy here in England and also at home. Charlotte is playing Reading FC this weekend and we look forward to following her journey in football this year and beyond.
