Sport Round-Up

Sport Round-Up

It has been great to see the pupils come back with a real sense of purpose and eagerness on the sports fields.

The Summer Sport Social at the end of August was a great success and allowed the new Fourths and Removes an opportunity to get to know one another in a relaxed environment and enjoy the football, hockey, netball, cricket, tennis and athletics all on offer.

At the start of this new academic year, we reflect on the four focus areas for Charterhouse Sport:

  1. Practise with purpose
  2. Perform with pride
  3. Win with humility
  4. Lose with dignity

Sport is all about being good people first and good sports players second. Here at Charterhouse we understand the importance of mental health and how sport can be an avenue to reduce anxiety and become free from any worries or problems people have.

Fixture Updates

The first two Saturdays have been fantastic with 37 sports teams being represented.

The Football sides have been in action against Ardingly, Bradfield and Whitgift with the Hockey girls taking on Wellington and Lord Wandsworth College.

Squash, Racquets and Fives have been in full flow and the Basketball team took on Old Carthusians in an end to end thriller in the QSC. The Badminton team had a fantastic victory against Wellington and in general there has been so much going on with loads of boys and girls getting a sense of real worth and value from playing competitive sport.

Recreational Gym has also started for the Specialists (Sixth Form) which is always busy this time of year – a chance to let off steam and work out after a busy day in class!

We look forward to hosting our Prep School Tournaments coming up this Quarter (term), having already hosted two Prep School Tournaments this week which have been a huge success.

The U15 Girl's Cricket side beat Tiffin to win the Tier 2 Surrey Cup. This is the first time, Charterhouse have won a girls cricket title and we know it won't be the last! Hope got 50 not out and had to retire and India bowled exceptionally well to help lead us to a victory.

Individual Achievements

Special mention to Emily and Beatrix  who have been selected for Waverly Vipers Netball Club's regional team. This is an outstanding achievement and they will be playing with Eliza who is going to Guernsey this Sunday for a match.

Congratulations also go to Isla for getting into Guildford Talent Academy Hockey.

Baye is training hard for the Pan-Am Games in October, where she will represent Canada in Wakeboarding.

DB, Jess, Selina, Issy and Honor  have been working hard in Equestrian where some of them are representing GB and others at regional level.

Congratulations to you all.
