Extra Curricular

There are around 80 extra-curricular Clubs and Societies ranging from Alternative Music to World Cinema, Ballet and Ballroom Dancing to Wine Appreciation with many both mainstream and more quirky options in between. Pupils are encouraged (especially in the Sixth Form) to take an active role in initiating and running societies, developing their own interests and taking the responsibility of leading activities with younger year groups as well as with peers. All boys in the Under School (Years 9-11) will do at least one extra-curricular cultural activity here: many choose to do far more. For Specialists (Sixth Form) the options are even broader.

Pupils can also participate in the Model United Nations at the Hague, undertake expeditions to remote places like Mongolia and Madagascar, master the workings of the internal combustion engine, and develop a love of rock-climbing, opera or sub-aquatic exploration. A full line-up of sports fixtures is offered on Saturday afternoons, with some of the younger age groups putting out as many as 5 or 6 teams. On a number of selected weekends there is also a programme for younger boys who are not in these teams. This features activities such as a year-group swimming gala. Two weekends a year are designated as "Activity Weekends". These provide an opportunity for many pupils to further pursue their Monday Activity with a one- or two-day outward bound expedition. Each Sunday there is an outing organised to which pupils can sign up.  There are also certain weekends when there are particular cultural activities organised such as music prizes, and house drama and music festivals.

The variety of challenging activities provided is an essential part of the School’s inclusive educational philosophy.
