Mr David McCombes

Bodeites is a House made up of many talents. The boys pride themselves on taking part and trying their best in everything they do. The sense of House spirit created by this is strong and ensures that everyone feels supported and encouraged in all aspects of school life.

David McCombes

In my early days at Charterhouse, I was a tutor in Bodeites and I am really delighted to be returning to the House in September 2021 as the new Head of Bodeites I want the House to be a warm, welcoming and supportive environment and I am really keen to support the boys in exploring all that Charterhouse has to offer.

Mr David McCombes, MA

Since joining Charterhouse in 2011, David has held a variety of posts and responsibilities, including Head of History, Deputy Head of Weekites, Master of the Specialists and Master-in-Charge of Football. In 2020, David and his family took part in an exchange with an American teacher, based at the Hill School in Pennsylvania, which gave him a great opportunity to explore academic and pastoral matters in an overseas context.

Before joining Charterhouse, David worked as a Housemaster and History teacher in a London day school. Prior to that he was a Press and Information Officer for the Queen, based at Buckingham Palace.

In his spare time, David is a keen footballer (supporting Newcastle United because he grew up in Whitley Bay) and golfer, but he’s also an enthusiastic musician, playing guitar and piano, though to an admittedly pretty average standard! His music taste is best described as eclectic. David has a wife and three children, while Jerry the dog completes the family.
