Artifex

The annual arts festival, Artifex, offers a chance for pupils to showcase their talents. Since it was launched in 2013, Artifex has become a vibrant part of the annual rhythm of the School. Artifex is produced by the pupils for the pupils and provides leadership opportunities well beyond what is possible in the classroom.

Some of the extraordinary events across the campus during recent Artifex years include:

Art Exhibition Pop Up Pupil Restaurant
Push Kart Derby Concert in the Cloisters

Artifex 2023

Artifex, our annual arts festival returns for its 9th fantastic year. With more than 90 events over five days, this is one of the biggest iterations of Artifex ever. This festival is all about events generated and managed by our pupils.

This year, the pupils have programmed a huge range of events, including some old favourites.  The Artifex Dome will once more emerge on J ground, playing host to the Prom in the Park concert, as well as C’house Got Talent, Chilled Vibes, Inter-house Debating, the Great Charterhouse Bake Off and numerous competitions and quizzes.

We have some exciting theatrical events with an exceptional performance of songs from Six (co-ordinated and directed by our pupils), as well as the inaugural performance in our Woodland Theatre with Alibi and scenes from 39 Steps with our Theatre Studies and Drama students. Some of our favourite Artifex events return again, including the Inter-House Pushkart Race, Inter-House Graffiti, Fashion Competition, and our Open Mic with our Unity and Pride Societies.

There is also a daily selection of short recitals you can come along to in the delightful setting of South African Cloister (Coffee Concert, Concert in the Cloisters). As an Artifex first, there will be a concert of continuous music composed by Bach running for 16 hours in our Dawn to Dusk Bach recital!

Artifex 2023 closes with our Prom in the Park on the Saturday night (24 June). As we all gather outside the Artifex dome, bring a picnic, and listen to an enticing selection of music from our concerts through Artifex week, as well as some musical theatre treats, all performed by our finest School musicians.
