Learning Support & SEND

At Charterhouse, we believe that every pupil should be empowered to learn with confidence, independence, and curiosity. Each member of our community is valuable and has a unique contribution to make.

Our Learning Support & SEND Department works closely with pupils to build the skills and self-belief they need to take ownership of their learning, laying strong foundations for success at school and beyond.

As a busy co-educational boarding school, life is full of opportunities for each pupil to try everything and discover their passions. Diversity strengthens our community.

The Learning Support and SEND department is found at the centre of campus.

We know that high-quality adaptive teaching in a relationally rich environment is the central element to every pupil reaching their potential.

We are passionate about working collaboratively with pupils, parents, and the academic, pastoral, health, and wellbeing teams within the School to identify where additional support is needed and to implement effective action.

Personalised Support

Support is available on the basis of need to all pupils at Charterhouse rather than being dependent on a diagnosis. Pupils across the range of academic attainment make use of learning support provision for a range of reasons.

We believe being an ambitious learner includes knowing when to ask for help. We are delighted with how many pupils pop in to do this week by week.

Some find that a short series of study skills lessons with one of our team members unlocked their potential with a new insight or strategy.

Others benefit from ongoing regular interventions in private study periods. These complement their classroom teaching and allow space for revisiting content or skills, or perhaps honing executive skills, strategies or accessing ELSA support.

Working together

We are committed to celebrating successes and strengths, and making our provision focused and effective. We seek to communicate clear targets and review these regularly.

In line with the Equality Act, we will make reasonable adjustments to ensure every pupil can access the full Charterhouse experience, both in and beyond the classroom.

This includes tailored support in lessons, co-curricular activities, and exam settings, ensuring that each individual has the opportunity to thrive.
