A Pioneering Programme
Success in the future won’t be defined by knowledge alone, but by how our young people apply that knowledge in complex, fast-changing environments.
That’s where FutureU comes in - our pioneering future-preparedness programme will equip you to think boldly, act responsibly, and thrive, whatever the future holds.
The world our pupils will step into is not the world their parents knew. Profound shifts in technology, the workplace, and society are reshaping what it means to succeed. Artificial intelligence, automation and global connectivity are transforming industries at speed.
Traditional career paths are giving way to portfolio careers and roles that didn’t exist five years ago - drone traffic controller, climate strategist, AI ethicist. In this new reality, adaptability and lifelong learning are as vital as qualifications.
At the same time, society is evolving. Cultural fluency, emotional intelligence and ethical leadership are increasingly essential. Employers no longer seek just exam results; they seek character, creativity, initiative and resilience. The ability to work well with others, to communicate with clarity, and to lead with integrity has never been more important.
Preparing Pupils for a World Yet to Be Written
In the future, qualifications alone won’t be enough. Success will belong to those who can think critically, lead with kindness, adapt to change, and make confident decisions. FutureU ensures that every Carthusian builds:
-
The skills employers value most
-
The awareness to make informed choices
-
The resilience to meet challenges with confidence
-
The character to stand out, for the right reasons
-
Future-readiness: Pupils leave as confident, resilient, and agile individuals ready to make an impact.
-
Innovative delivery: Learning in The Hub, not in traditional classrooms, encourages risk-taking and rapid adaptability.
-
Community engagement: Strong links with the Charterhouse community amplify opportunity and insight through alumni and parent involvement.
The 5 FutureU Pillars
Every pupil will access FutureU content throughout their studies at School via a dedicated programme, as well as through elements delivered within the academic curriculum, co-curricular activities, PSHE and the Futures Team. Provision will also continue to be available to all alumni, following graduation.
Everything we do within the programme is based around developing understanding across our 5 pillars:
1. The Charterhouse 10 Transferable Skills |
---|
We equip pupils with transferable skills – such as critical thinking, communication, and teamwork – through targeted sessions, academic courses, and co-curricular activities, laying the foundations for lifelong success beyond Charterhouse. Module example: Cognitive science – resilience and the growth mindset |
2. Life Hacks |
FutureU develops life skills beyond career preparation, with workshops on time management, self-awareness, networking, stress management, email etiquette, and financial literacy – equipping pupils to make confident, informed decisions in adulthood. Module example: Digital skills: Harnessing AI |
3. Entrepreneurial Mindset |
An entrepreneurial mindset encourages innovation, resilience, and problem-solving. The Charterhouse Entrepreneurship Diploma (CED), part of our FutureU programme, is the first UK-accredited professional qualification in Applied Entrepreneurship, credited by the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (IOEE). Module example: Goal setting and lesson learning |
4. Understanding the World of Work |
“I have no idea what I want to do.” “What is work?” “How do I make sure I’m employable?” FutureU helps pupils explore and answer these questions. Each year, we offer lectures, seminars, workshops, one-to-one advice, and networking opportunities with industry professionals, alumni, and experts. These connections provide invaluable insights, helping pupils make informed decisions about their future careers. Module example: Finance 101: Credit Cards to Balance Sheets |
5. Personal Brand Development |
In the digital age, personal branding is essential to career success. FutureU offers guidance on building an authentic brand – from LinkedIn profiles and CVs to networking and body language. Pupils learn to highlight their strengths and stand out in a competitive world. At Charterhouse, we live by five core values: perseverance, responsibility, moral courage, open-mindedness, and kindness. Developing a clear understanding of personal values can have a powerful impact on professional success. Module example: Future leadership and the art of taking responsibility |
The most successful individuals in the future workplace will be those who develop and maintain a flexible, transferable skill set – shaping how they think, how they work, and how they relate to those around us.
For each of our pupils, their Charterhouse education and our FutureU programme represent the first important step on this lifelong journey.

The School’s reputation as a friendly, fun place is well deserved, where pupils are prepared for the real world as much as for exams and university.
