It encourages independent thinking, intellectual curiosity, and a love of learning that extends well beyond the curriculum. Each year, we award Sir Robert Birley Academic Scholarships to outstanding candidates entering the Sixth Form, following entrance examinations and interviews held in the November prior to entry. In addition, Honorary Academic Scholarships may be awarded to pupils based on exceptional GCSE results or outstanding academic performance during their first year in the Sixth Form. Art & Fashion Design |
The Art & Fashion Design Department is a vibrant and creative hub within Charterhouse. The study of art is a journey of discovery and our aim is to challenge and deepen pupils’ understanding of the aesthetic, technical, and conceptual aspects of art. Pupils are encouraged to share ideas, experiment with techniques, and develop their creative skills in a collaborative studio environment. Art Scholars are expected to engage fully with the department, making the most of its facilities and contributing to the wider artistic life of Charterhouse through exhibitions, events, and enrichment opportunities. Art & Fashion Design Scholarship assessments are held in November. They should bring a portfolio that reflects their creativity, technical ability, and personal artistic journey. dance, Drama & performing arts |
Charterhouse offers exceptional opportunities for pupils with talent in Dance, Drama, and the Performing Arts. With a purpose-built studio and ongoing improvements to our theatre spaces, Scholars benefit from outstanding facilities and the chance to work with experienced professionals. Scholars are expected to take an active role in productions and are encouraged to explore all aspects of theatre, including performance, technical, and backstage roles. They also have opportunities to showcase their work in dedicated performances and to lead creative projects such as House plays or pieces for the Artifex Festival. While GCSE Drama and A-Level Theatre Studies are available, Scholars are not required to take these subjects. They are invited to participate in workshops, lectures, and theatre trips organised for Performing Arts pupils. Candidates are invited to submit an initial video and shortlisted candidates are then invited to audition in person. Scholarships are reviewed annually based on each pupil’s commitment and contribution.
