Outside the Classroom

Many schools can offer an outstanding academic education - at Charterhouse, our pupils’ results and destinations on graduation speak for themselves. What truly sets us apart is everything beyond the classroom.

We develop the skills, values and resilience that prepare young people to thrive in tomorrow’s world. Here, pupils learn not only how to achieve, but how to make a difference. No two Charterhouse experiences are the same. Having the opportunity to try everything outside of the classroom is the very definition of our Charterhouse education.

From the sports field to the theatre, the art studio to the parade ground, opportunities to follow your passions and find new ones are available every day.

My advice is to throw yourself into everything at School. You won’t ever have the level of opportunity that the School puts on a silver platter for you. Whether it’s drama, art or sport, find a passion. Do everything until you can’t do anymore! You can then discover what makes you tick! Try everything, don’t leave a stone unturned.

FA CUP WINNER'S MEDAL — Awarded to a member of the Old Carthusian Football Team who won the FA Cup in 1881 (the world’s oldest domestic football cup competition) in front of 4,500 people.

Charterhouse has always been a proud football-playing School, indeed Charterhouse football is regarded as a major influence in the development of the global game. It is believed that two of the original 13 rules of football came from the School. These rules today are more commonly known as the ‘throw in rule’ (Rule 5) and the ‘Offside rule’ (Rule 6).
