Hector has enjoyed an outstanding summer on the national and international sailing circuit.
Hector, First Year Specialist (Year 12), has been competing in international sailing events since the age of 11 and, at 13, progressed to the 420 class, one of the Royal Yachting Association's ‘Olympic Pathway’ youth sailing dinghies.
Sailing alongside his long-time friend and crew member, Sebby, Hector was selected this summer to represent Great Britain at both the World Championships in France and the European Championships in Lithuania. The pair gained invaluable experience and achieved a win in one of the international races at the World Championships.
Hector and Sebby then went on to compete in the British National Championships in Brixham, where they faced 50 420 boats and some exceptionally challenging conditions, including strong winds, powerful tides, and lots of shifts. Demonstrating impressive consistency throughout the week, they competed against a strong fleet that included the World No. 3 and some Olympic squad sailors.
Their performance culminated in a superb achievement: being crowned U17 Junior National Champions and finishing 10th overall in the championship standings. As a result, they have qualified for the British Youth Sailing Team, which is part of the RYA's Olympic Pathway.
Hector's success is testament to his dedication, and these latest achievements reflect years of commitment.
This summer was both intense and rewarding, as I competed in the World Championships and the European Championships, while also becoming the Under-17 National Champion in Brixham. It was an incredible experience, and I learned a great deal from racing against some of the best sailors in the world.
