Pupils recently took part in the London International Model United Nations (LIMUN) conference, joining young people from around the world to debate pressing global issues and develop their diplomacy, public speaking, and negotiation skills.

Representing a range of countries across different UN committees, our delegates engaged thoughtfully with topics including human rights, prisoner rights, and international cooperation.

The conference ended on a high note, with Anna, First Year Specialist (Year 12), earning the Diplomacy Award for her representation of Indonesia in UNHRC, and Zahra, First Year Specialist (Year 12), being praised with a special verbal commendation for her work representing China in SPECPOL.

Pupils described the weekend as both challenging and inspiring. Reflecting on her experience, Anna said:

“I really enjoyed the LIMUN conference, where I represented Indonesia for a debate about prisoners' rights in the Human Rights Council. I have made closer connections with the other students who went and got the opportunity to meet some great new people. This experience has given me more confidence and has allowed me to discover a new passion.”

Other delegates echoed these sentiments. Ruby, First Year Specialist (Year 12), who represented Japan in UNHRC, commented:

“Representing Japan in the UN Human Rights Committee, debating the reassessment of prisoner rights, was both a challenging and deeply rewarding experience. Throughout the weekend, my diplomacy skills strengthened and my passion for politics grew stronger.”

Octavia, First Year Specialist (Year 12) also highlighted the value of collaboration and debate, saying:

“Participating as Switzerland in the UN Human Rights Committee was a great experience. I really enjoyed being able to debate current global issues while getting to know a great group of delegates.”

The LIMUN conference was a memorable experience for all involved, giving pupils a taste of international diplomacy and inspiring many to pursue further opportunities in debate, politics, and global affairs.
