In a year when one-third of Carthusian candidates achieved 40 or more IB points (the equivalent of A*A*A*A* at A Level), two attained the maximum 45-point score, and nearly three-quarters secured 36 points or above, Charterhouse’s International Baccalaureate results once again place the School amongst the strongest IB-performing schools in the country. The average IB score of 37.5 points achieved by Carthusians in 2026 is itself an outstanding accomplishment, equivalent to A*AA at A Level.
Yet what makes these achievements especially meaningful is how they are achieved. Unlike schools built around a single academic model, Charterhouse believes there is no universally “best” pathway. Our commitment is to helping every pupil identify the programme – IB or A Levels – that best matches their talents, ambitions, and aspirations.
Excellence is not achieved by asking pupils to conform to a system. It is achieved by ensuring each pupil is challenged in the right way, at the right time, on the right pathway.
The strength of this approach is reflected not only in our examination results but also in the destinations our pupils go on to secure. In the UK, all confirmed destinations are within the Russell Group, including Cambridge, Imperial, University College London, King’s College London, Edinburgh, St Andrews, and Durham. Internationally, our IB pupils have secured places at some of North America’s most prestigious universities, including Georgetown, UCLA, UC Berkeley, McGill, Notre Dame, the University of Chicago, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), and the University of Virginia.
