Playing alongside county and international cricketers is an opportunity most young players can only dream of. For Jemima, Fourth (Year 9), that dream became a reality when she represented the Lord's Taverners in a match against MCC Ladies, and she certainly made the most of it.
The Lord's Taverners, the UK's leading youth cricket and disability sports charity, brought together a team featuring players of all ages and experience levels, from U13 cricketers to county and international players. They faced MCC Ladies, the women's representative side of the Marylebone Cricket Club, making it a fantastic opportunity for Jemima to test herself against some outstanding cricketers.
Despite being one of the younger players involved, Jemima settled into the occasion brilliantly. With the ball, she bowled five tidy overs, creating several catching chances for her teammates and maintaining her focus throughout a long day in the field.
Batting at number seven, Jemima walked to the crease at a crucial stage of the match, following a Brazilian international batter into the middle. Any nerves quickly disappeared as she got off the mark with a confident boundary.
As the game reached its closing stages, the pressure increased, but Jemima remained calm. With the scores close and victory in sight, she produced the perfect finish, striking the boundary that sealed the win for the Lord's Taverners and rounding off a memorable day in style.
I was honoured to be selected for this match, as I had the opportunity to play both alongside and against international and county ladies. Everyone involved was so friendly and made me feel very welcome. I was also excited and proud to score the winning runs for the Lord's Taverners in the match.

While the winning runs were a special way to finish the day, the experience itself may prove even more valuable. Spending time alongside county and international players, and realising she could more than hold her own in that company, has given Jemima a huge boost in confidence.
Perhaps the clearest indication of how much the occasion meant came afterwards. Those who watched remarked that they had never seen her smile so much as she did when she walked off the field.
What makes the achievement even more impressive is that Jemima is only in the Fourth Form (Year 9) and joined Charterhouse just a few weeks ago. Despite being new to the School, she has thrown herself into every opportunity available, quickly becoming involved in a range of sports and making a positive impression with her enthusiasm and willingness to get involved.
My first month at Charterhouse has been busy, exciting, and fun. I have tried new sports, started new subjects, met lots of new people, and made many new friends. I love Fletcherites (the best House!) because everyone is so friendly and supportive, across every year group, and all the staff are too.

Jemima's sporting talents extend well beyond the cricket field. Earlier this year, she qualified for the National Championships with her horse, but when the event fell on the same weekend as School netball and hockey fixtures, she made the tough decision to stay and support her School teams instead.
Her equestrian success story is far from over, however. Jemima has also qualified for the British Dressage Finals in two classes during Exeat (half term) and will now turn her attention to preparing for that competition.
A match-winning boundary, the opportunity to play alongside some outstanding cricketers, a selfless commitment to her School teams, and another major competition still to come; it has already been a memorable start to Jemima's Charterhouse journey, and we look forward to seeing what she achieves next.
