As the most widely anticipated musical event so far this year, the camaraderie and atmosphere at House Singing was immense. Judged by Eleanor Lane, each house came together to deliver an impressive and entertaining performance – but it was Duckites who stole the show with their unforgettable rendition of Murder on the Dance Floor.
Bodeites
Starting off strong with Bodeites’ rendition of Wannabe by the Spice Girls, which had tonnes of energy, as it seemed everyone on stage was having an absolute hoot while singing.
Sutton
Following the Spice Girls theme, Sutton delivered an outstanding arrangement of Say You’ll Be There, complete with harmonies, vocal solos, and a guitar solo.
Saunderites
Saunderites turned it up to 11 with the enthusiasm and choreography they brought to their choice of Who Do You Think You Are by the Spice Girls.
Moving on from the Spice Girls, we had Chetwynd and Gownboys perform contrasting songs by Robbie Williams.
Chetwynd
Chetwynd’s performance of Rock DJ, with its attention to choreography and moments of harmony, made for a fantastic showing.
Gownboys
Gownboys’ powerful performance of Angels was the perfect way to end this section, as it was touching to see the House spirit of Gownboys as they joined together to sing. The addition of the cello and the angel were also nice touches.
Verites
The second section saw Verites perform Don’t Look Back in Anger by Oasis, where they captured the anthemic quality of the piece. A special mention goes to the guitarist, who did a great job, as well as to the idea of everyone uniting in wearing a blue bucket hat.
Lockites
Lockites delivered an impressive and polished performance of Somewhere Only We Know, with separate parts for the boys and girls and careful attention to dynamics creating a musically engaging piece.
Robinites
She Moves in Her Own Way by The Kooks was sung well by Robinites, who achieved a compelling and unified sound.
Weekites
Weekites chose the funky classic Don’t Stop Movin’ by S Club 7, pulling off a punchy and visually stellar performance with their cheerleaders and spirited singing.
Hodgsonites
Finishing this section, we had a really fun performance by Hodgsonites singing Alright by Supergrass, full of great energy, a guitar solo, and harmonies between the soloists and the rest of the house.
Northbrook
Northbrook started off the final section with a dynamic rendition of Spice Up Your Life by the Spice Girls, complete with harmonies, green cheerleading pom-poms, and lively dancing.
Daviesites
Daviesites followed with a cracking performance of Shine by Take That, featuring breakaway trousers that revealed shiny gold ones as the cherry on top.
Duckites*
Duckites delivered an out-of-this-world performance of Murder on the Dance Floor, with an introduction that grabbed the audience’s attention, amazing vocals and solos, and fabulous dancing.
Pageites
Returning to Oasis, Pageites performed Stand by Me, a heart-warming anthem sung with passion.
Fletcherites
The final house performance of the evening came from Fletcherites, with Stop by the Spice Girls, which featured dynamic choreography and rich harmonies between parts.
