Ten members of the Charterhouse Shooting Team took to the firing line earlier this month for the BSSRA English Schools Long Range Competition, tackling one of the most technically demanding events of the season. Shooting smallbore rifles at 50 metres on an open, sun-washed range, the team faced bright conditions that made visibility challenging from the outset.

Despite challenging conditions, with sunlight shining through the targets and making visibility difficult at times, the team performed strongly throughout. We showed solid progress and consistency across all shoots, and we all really enjoyed the day.

Individual and pairs results reflected strong shooting across the board.
In the Individual Match, Dylan finished 4th, Alasdair 17th, Xander 19th, and Emily 24th, all earning top-25 badges.
The Senior Pairs of Dylan and Alasdair secured bronze with scores of 194.05 and 190.05, respectively.
Junior Pairs also performed impressively, with Emily and Aubrey placing 6th, and Henry and Hal finishing 14th.
Several pupils, including Theo and Hal, took on long-range shooting for the first time.

The weather was perfect, even though we found ourselves complaining about how bright the sun was. The day ran smoothly, everyone had a great time, and it was a memorable chance to develop our skills and represent the School with enthusiasm.

Reflecting on the outing, the coaching team noted that “a couple of our strongest shots did not quite produce on the day – it happens – yet the overall performance was encouraging."
Captain Burrel Taylor MBE, 2Lt Taylor, and Mr Oliver led the squad throughout the day, providing guidance that continues to underpin the team’s ongoing progress.
Charterhouse now looks ahead to the British Schools Long Range Open Championships on Saturday 29 November, where the team will defend its titles as National Champions in the Fours and Eights. Confidence remains high that, with steady nerves and clear focus, the squad will be firmly on form. |
