Two of our inspiring First Year Specialists (Year 12), Alix and Mila, persuaded the Head, Dr Alex Peterken, to jump from a plane – despite his intense fear of heights – to help raise an incredible £20,000 for charity.
This remarkable effort was in support of The Fountain Centre, an independent charity based at the Royal Surrey Hospital that provides vital support for cancer patients and their families. Through their regular volunteering, Alix and Mila have witnessed the extraordinary work the centre does and felt inspired to give back – bringing the Head along with them.
Travelling 10,000 feet upwards, Dr Peterken then courageously dove headfirst towards the School – several hours before delivering his Prize Giving speech on Carthusian Day.
An experience we’re sure he’ll never forget – although probably for a mix of reasons – was caught on camera.
Thanks to the generosity of donors, the funds raised will go towards creating a wellbeing garden for families supported by The Fountain Centre.
The charity offers a wide range of compassionate services, including bedside therapies like reflexology and hand massages, as well as compassionate listening, providing comfort to patients during their most challenging moments. The centre also offers "Bags of Kindness" – care packs filled with thoughtful items – and aromatherapy inhalers to alleviate symptoms like fatigue, nausea, and stress.

Dr Peterken has shown real courage and kindness, supporting us in our mission. Every pound raised will directly support The Fountain Centre and their commitment to making a lasting difference.
