SCROLL

Our sports programme continues to excel this Quarter (term), with hockey, football, racquets, and netball all delivering standout performances. From thrilling block fixtures under the lights to house competitions full of spirit, pupils have shown skill, resilience, and determination across the board. With cup campaigns already underway and more big matches on the horizon, there’s a real buzz of excitement about what the coming weeks will bring.

Hockey

Hockey continues to impress with a strong block fixture against Epsom, where all 14 teams were involved in high-quality games. Standout ones included the 15A’s, who narrowly lost 4-3, and the 1st XI, who earned an excellent 4-1 win under the lights.

This week, we look forward to hosting Churcher’s in what should be another exciting block with plenty of high-quality hockey.

Cup season is on the horizon, and we look forward to seeing what the 14A, 15A, and 1st XI can achieve this year.

House Hockey:

The past two weeks have seen house hockey in full flow. The standard has been at an all-time high across all year groups, with every game played in a fantastic manner and all Carthusian values on display.

Football

All of our football teams have shown real character and enthusiasm over the past couple of weeks, resulting in some strong performances in our block against Winchester, where we came away with 12 wins and 5 draws. A challenging block then followed, with a mixture of fixtures against Millfield and Wellington, two very strong opponents. Our teams showed great resilience and did well to claim victories against tough opposition.

This week, we look forward to a block against Eton, which is always a hugely enjoyable occasion.

Cup competitions are fast approaching over the next couple of weeks, with our Senior Boys and Girls 1st XIs, and the U15 Girls, all in action. Good luck to all!

House Football:

The Senior House football competition kicked off yesterday, providing some excellent matches, all played in the right spirit and with strong support from fellow housemates.

Racquets

Racquets has continued its brilliant start to Oration Quarter (autumn term) with our first co-ed fixture against Haileybury at Queen’s Club. There were excellent wins from Megan, Marta, and Steffi in the U16 girls, Matteo and Alex in the U16 boys claimed their first victory of the term, and the boys’ first pair – Alex and Ollie, Second Year Specialists (Year 13) – won 3-2 in a thrilling match, making it three wins from three.

The Fourth Form (Year 9) girls have been building on last week’s inspiring masterclass from Old Carthusian Amelia Drayson (W24) and are preparing for their first matches at Queen’s next week, alongside the Fourth Form boys.

This week, we travel to Marlborough College for our second co-ed match, which promises to be a tough but competitive fixture. Exciting times lie ahead as we build towards the National Schools Competition in December.

Netball

What a fantastic start to the season, with strong performances across our netball teams.

U14s:

The U14s are through to the third round of the Sisters in Sport Netball Cup after beating St Helen’s, Northwood in the first round and Lady Eleanor Holles in the second. There was some superb netball on display so early in the Quarter (term), with Players of the Match awarded to Ashley and Lizzie.

U15s:

The U15s also impressed, defeating a well-established Woldingham side in the Independent Schools Netball Cup. After receiving a bye in the second round, they are now through to round three. Congratulations to Ashley and Amelia on making their U15 debuts. Players of the Match were Coco and Lyla.

1st VII:

The 1st team faced a very competitive fixture against Lord Wandsworth College in the Independent Schools Netball Cup and progress to the third round after a bye. The match featured excellent defensive and attacking work in the circles, with Player of the Match going to Gabi and Coaches’ Player awarded to Tati.

It has been a brilliant start to the netball season, and the squads will continue to work hard in preparation for the Surrey Schools Tournament in the coming weeks.
