This year, the German department has been on the road, taking the language beyond our classrooms and into local prep schools to spark interest and excitement in studying German.
With visits to Aldro, Windlesham House, Amesbury, and Edgeborough, our pupils have stepped up as enthusiastic ambassadors, delivering German taster lessons with energy, confidence, and empathy.
At Aldro, First Year Specialists (Year 12), Alec and Nolan, made a strong impression, leading Year 8 pupils through a lively introduction to the German language. They covered essential phrases such as greetings, stating name, age, and nationality, and encouraged thoughtful discussions about the German-speaking world and linguistic links with English. Both pupils and staff greatly appreciated their professionalism and warmth.
Meanwhile, at Windlesham, Harry and Viggo, Second Year Specialists (Year 13), took on the challenge of teaching younger Year 7 pupils, overcoming their initial nerves and growing in confidence throughout the session. Their return journey was filled with enthusiastic reflections and admiration for the cheese and crackers in the staff room! We are particularly grateful to the MFL team at Windlesham for their warm greeting and support, and we hope the session sparked a curiosity for studying German at senior school.
Lena and Viggo also impressed during their visit, delivering three back-to-back lessons to Edgeborough’s Year 8 pupils. They adapted brilliantly to the varying levels of the groups and were commended for their resilience and adaptability.
I would like to thank all the pupils involved, as well as Mr Bloch, our outstanding PGCE trainee, for his dedication and skilled delivery across several schools. These visits have been instrumental in promoting German as an exciting option from Year 9 and beyond.
