Assistance with Fees
Supporting access. Enabling potential.
We believe that everyone should be able to aspire to the highest-quality education, regardless of financial circumstances.
For over 400 years, Charterhouse has provided financial support to talented students whose families may not otherwise be able to afford our fees.
Pupils in receipt of bursary support are valued members of our School community. We are proud to offer an environment where every child can thrive, regardless of background.
Such support provides meaningful opportunities to access to a Charterhouse and opens the door to life-changing opportunities which help to shape our future leaders, thinkers and changemakers. All bursaries are means-tested and are subject to funds being available. Each award is reviewed annually for changes in parents’ financial circumstances and may be adjusted as a result.
1. Who can apply? |
---|
Bursaries are available to pupils joining or currently attending Charterhouse who demonstrate strong academic potential, a commitment to school life, and whose families require financial assistance. Each application is assessed on a case-by-case basis, taking into account household income, assets, and individual circumstances. We recommend applying as early as possible, as funds are limited and awarded on a rolling basis.

2. How much support is available? |
Bursary awards can cover up to 100% of school fees, depending on financial need. All bursaries are means-tested annually to ensure support continues to be fairly and appropriately allocated, given the limited availability of funds. In some cases, additional support may also be available to assist with uniform, travel, or extracurricular costs.

Charterhouse was a massive opportunity to achieve the grades that I deserved, to have materials and the theatre and an exceptional music department, all of which allowed me to thrive within my own talents.
I never put myself forward at my state school, but arriving at Charterhouse the level of teaching was exceptional, and I was encouraged to be the best. At Charterhouse, it is cool to be the best.
I’d never been applauded for being the best. Looking back now, I’m acutely aware of the power of my bursary; I’ve carried this drive and confidence with me in my career, and it all came from Charterhouse. A bursary is not just relevant for the time you are at School, it’s quite literally life-changing.
