In previous years, we've focused on only sport for the introductory days before term starts. This year, we wanted to make sure that we introduce our newest Carthusians to an even wider range of opportunities on offer at Charterhouse.
We don't ask that our Fourths are West-End-ready or primed to enter the next World Cup, but we do ask that they are willing to get stuck in, give everything a go, and approach the day with Charterhouse values of open-mindedness and moral courage. They made me so proud with their kindness and encouragement to one another, and it looks like we're primed for a fantastic year together!
Bronwyn (Fourth – Year 9) shares her thoughts on an exciting taster to life at Charterhouse:
During the day, we participated in four different arts activities: DT, music, drama, and art. In the DT session, we made a wind turbine out of PVC pipe, card, and some mechanical pieces. We were working together in teams, so communication and leadership were key. In music, we discussed which genres of music each of us preferred and how many different groups and ensembles there are to choose from. Our drama session was led by a West End star, which was so inspirational, and we all left feeling excited by the performance opportunities. Finally, it was the perfect afternoon to walk around campus and sketch the iconic and historic architecture.
They made me so proud with their kindness and encouragement to one another, and it looks like we're primed for a fantastic year together!

Harry (Fourth – Year 9) also reflected on his exciting first few days
My first day at Charterhouse was a blast. Full of excitement and nerves, we enjoyed a range of activities throughout the day. To start the day off, we headed straight to the art centre and met the two beaks (teachers) leading the activity. It was great fun, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We then moved on to music, where we used 'GarageBand' to make a piece using beats and rhythms. Lunch came around fast, with a delicious barbecue on offer. The afternoon was full of action, with DT and drama carrying out some great activities for us all to do.
Day two rolled around, with enjoyment and hard work being pursued throughout the day. We started off on the football pitches, doing three match-based drills. We went on to an eleven-a-side game, with lots of laughter and tired faces on the pitch. The next activity was hockey, where we started off with two drills: one fast-paced passing drill and one technical dribbling/shooting drill. Subsequently, we moved on to a ten-a-side match, with the Charterhouse Blue Team roaring to victory.
This was the conclusion of the Charterhouse pre-season, with many people saying they can’t wait for the start of term on Monday.
I really enjoyed my Discovery Days at Charterhouse, as it proved to be a great way to meet new faces from different houses before the official start next week.
