We spoke with Charles Brod (W22), one of our callers from this year’s Telethon Campaign, to hear his reflections on connecting with hundreds of individuals in our community this summer:
Taking part in the Telethon really opened my eyes to the passion that parents and Old Carthusians (OC’s) have for certain aspects of the School. As an OC, I was not aware of the full extent of the bursary programme; discussing Charterhouse’s transformational bursaries generated the most interest during my phone conversations. Parents and OC’s alike found it incredibly important to support this initiative.
For many OCs, the organ was the heart of the School when they attended Charterhouse, so hearing that it was coming to the end of its life definitely evoked a reaction.
I had an amazing conversation with a gentleman who attended the School in the ’70s. He told me of traditions I had never heard of, and he was thoroughly intrigued to hear how the School has developed over the years. He provided insightful career advice and offered to speak again to discuss the next steps in my career.
Spending three years at university meant I hadn’t engaged with the Old Carthusian network as much as I would have liked – but I was excited to promote the School’s current priorities through genuine conversations.
The Telethon Campaign secured vital philanthropic donations towards our Bursary Programme, the Organ Appeal, and our new Music School. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who engaged with the campaign – whether through an inspiring conversation, a nostalgic memory, or a generous gift towards one of our current projects. The Telethon also proved to be a great opportunity to connect with OCs and parents who had taken a similar career trajectory. It was a pleasure to engage with the Charterhouse community, and I gained new connections that I’ll definitely follow up with in the coming months.
