On Thursday 12 June, we were delighted to host the official opening of the extension to our Art and Design Engineering Centre. This inspiring event celebrated the fusion of art, design, and engineering, highlighting the exciting advancements in our educational programmes – and it truly lived up to expectations.

We were honoured to welcome a wonderful gathering of governors, contractors, volunteers, and generous donors who have all contributed to making this project a reality. The occasion featured heartfelt speeches from our Head, Dr Alex Peterken, and our Director of Art, Helen Pinkney. Both emphasised the vital role this new facility will play in nurturing the creativity and talent of our dedicated art and design students.

The Art and Design Engineering Centre is more than just a building – it’s a catalyst for interdisciplinary creativity, where the boundaries between art and technology dissolve. Here, pupils will not only learn to design and engineer but will be empowered to reimagine the world around them in bold, unexpected ways.

Adding to the excitement, Stephanie Wilson (V10) returned to cut the ribbon and shared her memories of her time in the Charterhouse Art department, marking the official opening. Former pupil Rhys Llwellyn-Williams (V25) shared his inspiring journey of balancing his passion for art and design techniques in his work. Margarita, First Year Specialist (Year 12), reflected on the joy and fulfilment she found in the Design workshop, where countless hours of creating and learning help shape her skills and imagination.

This extension is more than just a building – it’s a vibrant centre for innovation, creativity, and opportunity, empowering the next generation of artists and engineers to push boundaries and realise their potential.
