Theatre

Charterhouse continues to build on the very strong, long-standing tradition of Theatre at Charterhouse. There are numerous opportunities to participate in the theatrical life of the School, either on stage or behind the scenes, both in the professionally equipped Ben Travers Theatre or in one of the many other performance spaces that our beautiful site affords.

The Theatre is an exciting place to be. It’s a space where pupils from across the School come to work together, a space where creativity and freedom of expression are given full rein. Here all our School values are at play.

Every term there are major productions in our theatre, including whole School plays and those performed by specific Years or Houses. Our Groundlings Theatre Group is open to pupils in Year 9 and performs several times during the year. The annual School Musical is also now firmly established within our calendar and our programme of events includes performances and workshops by visiting professional theatre companies too.

Pupils are involved in the technical aspects of all productions, be it sound, lighting, stage managing, stage crew, set-construction or wardrobe.

The Drama Department also offer LAMDA Speech and Drama lessons as well as the opportunity to attain certificates from other awarding bodies.
